Rome – The Eternal City

Rome – When I saw “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons” movies I got obsessed with visiting Rome. Oh Yes!…I am one of those who get completely involved when watching movies. As soon as I think about Rome….I feel like going back to this ancient city of luscious food and it’s exceptional architecture. Rome has been on our bucket list for ages as it has so much history including iconic monuments, it’s museums and basilicas demonstrating Europe’s most celebrated masterpieces…but none of that is complete without experiencing Rome’s cobbled streets.

We booked an Air BNB accommodation in the heart of this lovely city and we were not disappointed as it was within walking distance to the great colosseum and many other attractions & museums in the area. The place were we stayed had massive staircase to which we enjoyed looking from our window in the night as locals passed by from the pubs and cafes nearby.

We started early next day on foot to visit the grand Colosseum….place where people of Rome suffered and enjoyed suffering! This magnificent building was worth all our time as we walked through it and moved further down to the Roman Forum. Did you know…..in ancient times, a forum was a market place, civic centre and religious complex all rolled into one and the greatest of all was the Roman Forum!

We then headed down to a few museums one of which was Musei Capitolini which had one of the great masterpieces of Michael Angelo.

The next morning we headed to the Vatican…one of the places you don’t want to miss when you visit Rome. We visited Rome during easter holidays due to which the Vatican was way too crowded. We were unable to go inside St Peter’s Basilica however we did visit the Vatican museum which is extraordinary. Even a day is not sufficient to cover the entire museum however it is worth a visit. Believe me…the remarkable art work that is displayed in the Vatican Museum and in most of the basilicas that we visited in Rome was just jaw dropping!

What a great combination of Michael Angelo’s and Raphael’s work……the sealing was painted by Michale Angelo and side walls by Raphael

Rome is simply one of the best historic places in Europe which has everything to offer…then be it delicious food, exceptional architecture, extraordinary art work or cobbled streets….you will not get disappointed in Rome!!!

Oh yes, and do not forget to taste Gelato when in Rome. You are going to absolutely love it! We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our stay in Rome and we hope you will too : )
