Edinburgh – In Love with Scotland’s Capital City

Honestly, I never thought I would like Edinburgh…I thought it would be same as London, after all it’s just a city, isn’t it? But when our friends told us they “loved” Scotland and we should visit if we can…we decided to give it a go. We booked our flight from London to Edinburgh for the weekend and took off for a mini vacation. We pre-booked our accommodation in a hotel at the cheapest rate available as per our budget which was to our surprise a Grade II listed building. We were in luck! The accommodation was perfect.

We then visited the medieval old town of Edinburgh. From a distance it looked absolutely stunning. We walked down the old town and couldn’t stop admiring the beauty of this charming little place as we passed by each building.

Our next stop was one that should not to be missed – Edinburgh Castle…..it’s magnificent! We took our time to complete our tour in the castle as we loved exploring it and wanted to cover everything. You can see spectacular views of Edinburgh from the top of the castle. The location of the castle itself is astonishing!

Next on our list was Holyrood Palace – which is the official residence of the Queen Elizabeth II. Adjacent to the Palace is Holyrood Abbey that we covered as well. The remains of this church have been very well preserved.

Last on our list to cover was the Royal botanical gardens. We love nature and don’t ever miss a chance of visiting a garden, forest or nature reserve. We were very excited when we reached this place as it has huge variety of plants. Be prepared to spend good amount of time here as it a large area to cover.

As this was a short trip we could only cover a few places in Edinburgh. But the little time we spent in Edinburgh was just perfect. We were not at all disappointed in our decision to visit this lovely capital city of Scotland as we loved the food, managed to get a scotch whisky experience, walk down the old town and Royal Mile & admiring those beautiful buildings and more importantly the people of Scotland…..they are so helpful & friendly and I just loved their accent!

If you are visiting Scotland do make sure to visit the highlands as we heard they are breath taking. The Scottish highlands are on our bucket list and we hope to tick them off soon.
